Membership Categories

There are various types of membership in SSSI to suit every stage of a spatial professional's career:

Member

The Member level of SSSI is offered to applicants who hold a minimum 3 year bachelor degree in a relevant spatial discipline and at least one year work experience in a relevant spatial discipline.

Associate

The Associate level of SSSI is offered to applicants who hold a diploma or advanced diploma in a relevant spatial discipline. Associate level of SSSI is also offered to those who are first year graduates following a diploma or advanced diploma in a relevant spatial discipline.

Affiliate

The Affiliate level of SSSI is offered to applicants who have a technical institute certificate level 1-4 and/or to those applicants who are 18 years and over who do not hold any post-secondary spatial qualifications.

First Year Graduate

The First Year Graduate level of SSSI is offered to applicants who have completed their bachelor's degree and are currently in their first year of work.

Second Year Graduate

The Second Year Graduate level of SSSI is offered to applicants who have completed their bachelor's degree and are currently in their second year of work.

Part Time Student

Student members must be enrolled for up to 75% of full-time student load at a university or technical institute and renew on an annual basis with a certification from the institute that you are still in part-time study.

Overseas membership

Applications from overseas residents are welcome and will need to complete the SSSI Application for membership documentation and be assessed in the normal manner. Further details of Overseas Membership are included on the overseas member page.

Other Considerations

Members of SSSI may be eligible to apply for Retired status, Career Break and Hardship. Contact SSSI for more information.

Student $Free

The Student level of SSSI is offered to applicants who are studying full time a relevant spatial course at a university or a technical institute.
