Who We Are

The Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) is the national peak body catering for the professional people who make up the spatial information industry. SSSI gives a voice to the members of the spatial science community in both the national and international arena.

Our members work in diverse roles across various sectors, industries and organisations, including academia, government, and private and public practice throughout Australia and New Zealand.

SSSI is a body that accommodates the changing nature of the industry while honouring and building upon the traditions, values and history of its founding institutions.

We also represent the interests of our members to government, industry, academia and the general public by actively engaging our membership and local and international bodies on public policy, government legislation and regulatory issues.

The key objectives of the Institute include:
  • to empower Members to strive for excellence in the application and practice of spatial science for the benefit of the community
  • to represent, support, provide for and promote the professional interests of members that work in the spatial industry and all its disciplines
  • to provide a regional and national identity to enable the development of the spatial industry as a whole
  • to enhance the professional character and status of members who practise in the spatial sciences as worthy contributors to the community.
