eCPD - Issues to consider when establishing a drone program – learnings from US Geological Survey
Date & Time
Wednesday, 2 Jun 2021
- 12:00 pm
Speaker: Dr Renee Bartolo
Renee Bartolo was a 2019 Fulbright Scholar based with the United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) National Unmanned Aircraft Systems Project Office and undertook a project to develop guidelines for effective environmental assessment and monitoring with drones. During this period she focussed on the policies and systems that are required in a large government organisation to run safe and compliant drone operations, which resulted in her unexpectedly becoming Part 107 certified and a Department of Interior carded drone pilot. The learnings from the USGS are now being applied in her role as Chief Remote Pilot for the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE).
This webinar will present learnings from the USGS in relation to policy, cybersecurity, privacy, internal training programs, connecting your drone community, partnering with industry, drone operations (e.g. BVLOS), and challenges with handling data and subsequent analytics in an operational setting. These learnings will be contextualised in how they are being applied in the Australian context at DAWE.
There will be something for everyone to take away from this session.
