Please join us for a webinar of Hydrographic Surveying at the bustling Port of Newcastle, presented by Robert Kelly.
Port of Newcastle is a major Australian trade gateway handling 4,600 ship movements and 166 million tonnes of cargo each year. With annual trade worth more than $29 billion to the New South Wales economy, the deepwater shipping channel is the region's critical asset.
Hydrographic Surveying is integral to the safe and efficient operation of the channel with survey data supporting decision making by the Harbour Master, maintenance dredging activities and future port development.
The presentation will firstly look at the technical aspects of multibeam echosounders and how survey methodology is used to manage the sources of error. Secondly an outline of how hydrographic surveying assists the maintenance dredging process to maximise the loading of vessels within the port including examples from the recent flood event in March 2021.
