Webinar: Enhancing National Mapping – The Why and Where to
Date & Time
Wednesday, 15 Sep 2021
- 3:00 pm
This webinar is a joint initiative of the SSSI Disaster Management & Recovery Special Interest Group & Spatial Information & Cartography Commission.
Many of the challenges Australia faces require a national perspective and combined course of action. Experience has shown that nationwide maps are critical to managing cross-border emergency situations, environmental and national resource management, national security and climate change. These challenges can be resolved more efficiently through maps that show the link between a place, its people and their activities. This webinar explores the need for enhanced national mapping and a Digital Atlas of Australia.
This session will feature presentations from:
- Mary O'Kane from O'Kane Associates presenting on findings from the NSW Bushfire Enquiry, focussing on the need for improved geospatial information and technologies.
- Jodie Mewett from the National Recovery and Resilience Agency talking about the difficulties in finding appropriate data for bushfire recovery
- Simon Costello from Geoscience Australia discussing the proposed Digital Atlas of Australia.
