Join us to discuss the journey and evolution of the modern Engineering Surveyor, the comparison between Engineering and other forms of Survey and the way things are done today including robotics, automation and BIM.
Brad Dalton is an Engineering Surveyor whose career has spanned roads and infrastructure, construction, and mining. In his role at SmartTech he deals with Autonomy in Water Management, Mining, Civil Construction, Ship Loading and Large Scale Utilities utilising industrial Wi-Fi to connect assets plus Control & Navigation Algorithms to develop collision detection systems and other exciting projects.
What started as a graduate job at Vic Roads in the engineering department, trying out all the new technology, has evolved into a 40 year career of technological innovation and transformation of the discipline.
Brad has been very fortunate to have worked through progressive changes in Surveying from Field Books and Key-in-Operators, to the first Total Station, to One Man Total Stations to a Jigger that doesn’t have an eyepiece. During all that time the principals of good Surveying have remained but the pathways to results have altered significantly.
Most people come into Survey today through a degree and a Cadastral pathway, for Brad the journey has almost always been Engineering Survey and what a journey it has been.
Brad has almost 30 years of experience in Mining, Civil Construction and Oil & Gas a solid understanding at all levels of the business at Senior Management level . He has extensive experience in enabling efficiency through the use of high tech products and services and has been in the forefront of Automation and Semi automation in mining for some time. He has significant experience in project managing teams of people providing services that have designed, built, serviced and maintained infrastructure and mining projects across the Asia Pacific.
