How lucky are those who get to work with GIS in Local Government?! What other organisation applies GIS to such a diverse range of disciplines? If you didn't get the opportunity to attend our successful GIS in Local Government in February 2021, then this webinar series is for you!
Register now to hear from some of the fantastic presenters from the event, on a broad range of topics involving applications of GIS.
This first session is on the Greening the City project, presented by Maggie Hine, City of Port Adelaide Enfield, Mark Siebentritt, Edge Environment and Mike Barnes, Airborne Logic.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield has recently agreed to significantly increase its investment in tree planting to increase urban tree canopy cover in the medium to long term. To support this direction, Council embarked on a project to analyse how many trees are required to reach various tree canopy targets using spatial information already obtained from other council projects. The amount of plant-able land and ultimately the number if potential trees were derived using a combination of machine learning techniques and spatial analysis. Plant-able areas were also prioritised to support forward planning and budgeting to maximise the benefit to the community in the areas vulnerable to urban heat. Various scenarios were fed through a Tree Planting Predictor model and will inform a final report to Council.
