Speaker

Amelia Chapman is Director of Land Information and Spatial Services in the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.  In this role, Amelia oversees the delivery and enhancement of DELWP’s prized Vicmap spatial data services, the authoritative mapbase of Victoria and coordinates a program of over $4.5 million in aerial imagery and LiDAR acquisition on behalf of government each year. Amelia is a founding member of the Spatial and Surveying Diversity Leadership Network, a cross-section of 30 members from government, industry and academia formed on International Women’s Day last year with the goal to leverage the reach and support of the network to support a more diverse and inclusive spatial and surveying industry.

Topic

Thinking differently about difference: boosting innovation in the Spatial and Surveying Sector through diversity and inclusion

The Spatial and Surveying Diversity Leadership Network formed in March 2018 with the goal to support a more diverse and inclusive spatial and surveying industry. Achieving more diverse and inclusive workplaces is an important priority as the spatial and surveying sector prepares for new opportunities and challenges as part of delivering our 2026 Spatial Industry Transformation and Growth Agenda.

We’re facing a shortage of talent. By 2025, there will be a shortfall of approximately 1,300 graduate or licensed surveyors and 300 geospatial specialists with university degrees. Amelia will outline the compelling business case for diversity and inclusion and a call to action for a collaborative approach to solutions.
