Join SSSI Victoria as we celebrate the birthday of Victoria's first Surveyor-General, Robert Hoddle.
Robert Hoddle was Victoria’s first Surveyor-General and is one of Victoria's most well know surveyors, especially relating to the Melbourne CBD. Hoddle was active in the eastern colonies having assisted John Oxley is some of his surveys in Brisbane, surveyed a route over the Blue Mountains and was involved in Mitchells Map of the Nineteen Counties as well as carrying out surveys where Canberra is now located.
The Mail Exchange Hotel is built on the land where Hoddle lived most of his life in Melbourne and is being encouraged to become a local watering hole for surveyors.
Now that restrictions have eased, we would like to once again take the opportunity to get surveyors together on 21 April to commemorate Hoddle's Birthday.
Former Surveyor-General John Parker wrote the forward to the book published on Hoddle by Berres Colville (Robert Hoddles great granddaughter) and will give a presentation at the event.
Attendees will have the chance to purchase lunch and drinks at the pub on the day. It is a great chance to catch up with surveying colleagues old and new.
Only limited places are available, and attendance is free, so we encourage you to register now below so you don't miss out!
