The Remote Sensing & Photogrammetry Commission offers heartfelt congratulations to Dr Jonathan Osborne, the recipient of the Education Development Award at the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards in Melbourne on 9 April 2019.
Jon Osborn is a senior lecturer in surveying and spatial sciences, within the discipline of Geography and Spatial Sciences, School of Land and Food at the University of Tasmania. He works within the Surveying and Spatial Sciences group, with teaching responsibilities in the areas of photogrammetry, remote sensing, and land surveying. Jon's research explores ways to understand complex forms or processes using remotely sensed spatial measurement, particularly photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques.
The judges said, "Jon’s conscientious, deliberate and well-grounded approach to his teaching has guided many in the profession and served as a marker for many in academia. Jon’s management and mentoring has extended across many staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, shaping their contributions to the discipline and profession. Jon has initiated, developed and maintained meaningful links into industry as evidenced by his role as the University’s representative on many industry committees and his personal involvement within the professional organisations both in Tasmania and nationally."
