Please find below information on what is happening at the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Engineering & Mining Surveying Commission as of February 2019.
EMSC National Chair - Andrew Edwards
The Engineering and Surveying Commission has been active over the past few months, with our focus on Engineering Surveying Profession (Australasia Pacific) (ESP-AP) Certification. As you may be aware, ESP-AP is the specialist certification in Engineering Surveying that is recognised by the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) that a person has demonstrated that he or she has the necessary knowledge and experience to competently perform engineering surveys and associated activities.
As a profession we actively promote excellence. By gaining ESP-AP you demonstrate that you have an advanced level of expertise. Of concern is that the number of engineering surveyors applying for ESP-AP certification is steadily declined.
EMSC is keen to work with the profession to increase the profile and stature of ESP-AP certification. The Commission has commenced discussions with members of the ESP-AP Panel to review the application process and to identify innovative ways to increase the uptake of ESP-AP.
It is clear, that there needs to be a clear market value associated with having ESP-AP certification. EMSC will be looking at ways to work with government and contractors to ensure that project specifications seek to engage mining surveyors that are eligible for accreditation to the level of ESP-AP.
Our ultimate aim is to have both surveying engineers and the market understand the value of ESP-AP certification and to ultimately increase its update.
We welcome feedback from our members on their experiences with ESP-AP certification process, its value to them and suggestions on how we can increase its uptake. Please forward your feedback to email@example.com
