Chair's Report – Paul Reed
As the year comes to a close, I find that some in our industry are not as busy as in previous years. Often December finds us with our noses to the grindstone as we try to meet those end-of-year project deadlines. This year may be a little less hectic for you, allowing time to prepare for a relaxing break over the summer!
I hope you are in the latter situation and are taking the opportunity to reflect on 2019 - everyone I talk to agrees it seems to have been an extraordinarily busy year, but a satisfying one, with some great achievements.
Here at SSSI Queensland, we have held a number of successful events, provided feedback to stakeholders on some key issues and changes to the industry. We have represented our members in a number of reference groups and at key gatherings. I hope you have felt you have benefited from being a part of our association - we are certainly proud of the Institute and the work we are doing as a community. We are continually striving to improve our offerings whilst working to drive the profession into the future.
A quick reminder once again to mark your diaries for the Locate20 Conference, happening on 28 - 30 April in Brisbane. Registration is now open and we hope to have a draft program ready for you in the early new year! It promises to be a fantastic event and we hope to see as many of our Queensland members there as possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a safe and relaxing Christmas and I look forward to seeing you at an event in 2020.
If you have any suggestions for seminars, workshops or webinars you would like to see next year, or any other matters or ideas you would like us to consider, don't hesitate to contact me on chair.qld@sssi.org.au.
SSSI Christmas Close Down
Please note the whole of SSSI will be closed from Monday 23 December to Friday 3 January inclusive.
Event Highlights
Northern Group Conference
Over 70 surveyors and spatial scientists from Mackay to Cairns came together at the Novotel Cairns Oasis to share experiences, hear from interesting and relevant speakers and enjoy the reknowned Cairns hospitality.
Attendees also had the opportunity to see the latest technology from Queensland's suppliers to the industry and listen to a fascinating talk on the mapping of the Queensland coast line from Bill Kitson at the conference dinner at the Cairns Aquarium.
Thanks to the Conference Convenors, Graham Jensen and Jemma Picco, for putting together a great program!

Qld YP Mentoring Graduation and EOY Celebration
A small group of mentees and mentors, as well as members of the Queensland Regional Committee, came together at the Regatta Hotel at the end of November to celebrate the end of the 2019 mentoring program. Mentees gave very positive feedback on their experience with the program and mentors also appreciated the opportunity to pass on some words of wisdom! Thanks so much to C.R. Kennedy for their support of the program nationally, as well kindly covering the drinks on the night.
