SSSI QLD News - February 2019

Staff Changes

After close to 7 years of working with SSSI, five with SSSI NSW and two with SSSI Qld, we are sad to advise that Kelly Rischmiller has tendered her resignation as the Qld Regional Operations Manager of SSSI. Kelly will be moving onto a new role at The University of Queensland.

Kelly has been a valuable and professional SSSI staff member throughout her time, with a corporate knowledge second to none and a high level of commitment to professional outcomes. Kelly will be missed by all staff and members who had the pleasure of working with her. We thank Kelly for her service and wish her all the best for the future

Katie Le Miere, our previous Events & Administration Officer, will be taking on the role as Regional Operations Manager for Queensland.  Feel free to contact Katie on rom.qld@sssi.org.au if you have any queries!

Working with ISNSW & ISVIC

Queensland Chair Paul Reed and Qld Land Surveying Commission Chair Mandy Compton, along with the SSSI President and CEO, were invited to the ISNSW Presidents Lunch on the 24 January to meet with the ISNSW President Tony Proust, the new ISVIC president, Kellie Dean; The NSW Surveyor-General, Narelle Underwood, the NZIS Board Chair Daniel Williams as well as the incoming President of ISNSW, Leigh Finlay.

The lunch was an opportunity to meet and network with some of our fellow surveyors from interstate and New Zealand and to discuss some of the common issues we face within the surveying profession. This meeting is the start of what we hope will become a continued collaboration between the leaders within our industry from across the country which will enable us to discuss matters that affect us all and to deal with them at a National level. We will endeavour to cooperate with our interstate counterparts in an effort to create stronger partnerships.

Milestone for a Local Surveyor

Highly respected Brisbane surveyor Robin Francis turned 90 on Australia Day. Robin was born in 1929 in Colinton in the Brisbane Valley and studied surveying with Cyril Bennett, registering as a Surveyor in 1951.

The partnership of Cyril and Robin founded Bennett & Francis, one of Brisbane's largest and most well respected firms. Amongst his many achievements, Robin was the President of the Qld Division of the Institution of Surveyors Australia from 1961-62 and also surveyed the easements for the first oil pipe line in Queensland.

Robin retired from the survey practice in 1976 - we wish him the very happiest of birthdays!
