Chair's Report - Paul Reed
SSSI Qld Surveying & Spatial Day

I am very pleased to announce this year's SSSI Queensland annual conference will be held on Friday 18 October 2019 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

In 2019, we are holding the event on just one day, with multiple concurrent sessions covering topics from across all streams of surveying and spatial science. The conference will be followed by the Qld Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards, co-hosted with our partner organisation SIBA|GITA.

Our team is working on building a fantastic program of topical and interesting speakers for the event, but we would love to have your involvement!  We are calling for submissions of abstracts for the program, so if you are interesting presenting your latest research, project or experience, then please visit the Qld Surveying & Spatial Day webpage to submit.

Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards - Queensland

As I mentioned above, APSEA-Q will be held on the evening of the conference, 18 October, also at the convention centre.

The awards really are an outstanding way to recognise the achievements of the individuals and organisations in the Queensland industry.  Visit the APSEA website to see some of the inspiring and deserved winners from previous years.

I strongly encourage you to consider nominating a colleague or your organisation for the awards.  More details on the categories and how to nominate is at

Titles Registry Changes

I have also been working with our Queensland Land Surveying Commission and SIBA|GITA on crafting a response to a request for feedback to proposes changes to the way the Registry deals with survey plans.  Thanks to all those who provided their thoughts on the subject - I will keep you updated on the outcome.

As always, if you have any queries, concerns or suggestions on SSSI Queensland or a surveying or spatial science matter you need assistance with, you are most welcome to contact me on

The Full Program is now available for SEASC19 in Darwin!
