NSW Regional Conference was held in Wollongong from November 14th to 16th and for the very first time was preceeded by a Fire Mapping workshop, in conjunction with the NSW Rural Fire Service, and incorporated Aerometrex Does World GIS Day at the Welcome Reception, plus, of course, the ever-popular APSEAs Dinner celebrating the works and acheivements of the amazing people who make up our industry; it was a CPD-networked packed 3 days!
Thank you to everyone who attended and made the three days such a success.
Please keep an eye on your inbox for feedback opportunities over the next few days.
A special thanks to our sponsors without whom Conference would not have been possible:
Platinum - Nearmap
Diamond - Pitney Bowes
Ruby - Aerometrex
Sapphire - DFSI Spatial Services (NSW Government)
Silver - Cardno, Omnilink, Jacobs and Urbispro &

iNDUSTRY UPDATE: jacobs' imagery helps careflight team save lives!
Jacobs provide their annually captured aerial imagery product, AUSIMAGE, to CareFlight NSW.
CareFlight is an aeromedical for purpose organisation established in May 1986 by a group of Australian doctors. CareFlight uses a variety of aircraft including aeromedical helicopters, jets and aeroplanes to bring injured and ill patients within Australia and overseas to emergency hospital care.
Imaging and mapping technology provided by Jacobs to the CareFlight helicopter is helping the rapid response team get to accident victims faster, at times making the difference between life and death, or permanent disability.
Air crewman Ben Inglis said that in a single year the CareFlight helicopter has used the full copy of the Sydney and NSW Central Coast AUSIMAGE data set, on a daily basis on more than 100 missions.
“Recently we overheard a radio call of a child drowning and within 15 seconds we were able to punch in the address to have a bearing and distance, an image of where we would be able to land and also the terrain the child was drowning in,” Mr Inglis said.
“We then diverted with another patient on board, landed at the scene and aspirated the child, who began breathing again and has since made a full recovery.”
AUSIMAGE, which ranges in resolution from 10cm to 20cm, is used in information systems and projects involved in surveying, mapping, asset management, planning, engineering, land-use monitoring and development professions.
CareFlight is dedicated to providing the highest standard of rapid response critical care to the ill and injured. Its specially trained doctors, nurses and paramedics use helicopters, fixed wing aircraft and road ambulances to bring a hospital level of care to patients.
