SSSI NSW & ACT News – April 2020

March 31, 2020

Regional UPDATE

Your regional committee is hard at work during these challenging times and trusts all members are staying safe and well.  The NSW Regional Management Committee is hard at work planning webinars, digital events, as well as face-to-face events for the latter part of this year. If you have ideas or would like to get involved please get in touch.

There are many events currently programmed as well as in the pipeline and note that you can access eCPD 'on demand' by clicking here

Beyond events, in the education sector the draft Surveying and Spatial Information qualifications and units of competency have been prepared for broader consultation.   Industry and stakeholder feedback is sought in regard to the directions Vocational Education and Training (VET) will take for our industry in future years. Please use this link to comment on the provided materials and rationale and distribute the link to relevant people in your networks Surveying and Spatial Information Services Project

The NSW Surveyor General is seeking to fill positions on the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI, the Board). The Surveying and Spatial Information Act 2002 requires professional associations involved in the spatial information industry to nominate persons to the Board. NSW Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) is currently taking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for BOSSI nominations.  Nominations are currently being accepted  (extended until April 17) - the nomination form can be received from rom.nsw@ssssi.org.au or any member of the NSW Regional Management Committee.

The NSW Regional Management Committee is also looking for people interested in getting involved in Women in Spatial. Our National and state lead in this portfolio steps down after 2 years in the role. Raelene Forbes brought a lot of ideas as well as some key events and workshops to the portfolio in her time involved.  Highlights over that time have been the 2018 Sydney Twilight Women-Speaker Event on the changes in imagery and remote sensing,  our 2019 leadership event and workshop, key webinars, interviews and Position Magazine articles bringing greater visibility to women achieving in the surveying and spatial sciences industry. Raelene cooridnated Women In Spatial events at each of the the NSW & ACT Regional conferences over the last two years and was a keynote speaker at other industry events like the 2019 'Mapped Out' Conference dinner in Wagga. Her thoughtful contribution to the NSW RMC has been deeply appreciated. We look forward to welcoming others interested in contributing to this space in the future.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Foundation Data Spatial Framework & NSW Globe

Spatial Services is the primary resource for NSW's authoritative spatial data and services and contributes to the state's transition towards digital government. As custodians of NSW's Foundation Spatial Data Framework (FSDF), we deliver a comprehensive package of land and property services, including property information, surveying and mapping.

Spatial Services is working to improve your digital data experience and access to the FSDF.

A new platform, NSW Spatial Collaboration Portal allows users to search and discover the 10 NSW FSDF themes and all the data you have been accessing and using in NSW Globe.

Land valuations and property sales information have been moved from NSW Globe, to the new Land Values and Property Information page of the NSW Spatial Collaboration Portal.

NSW Globe had become a deprecated platform where services and functionality are limited.

Users are encouraged to explore the Land Values and Property Information page of the NSW Spatial Collaboration Portal which from April 6, 2020 is now the only access to information currently available in NSW Globe.
