Member MOMENTS - 5 Minutes with

Amy Steiger - Special Acheivement Awardee for 2019!
  1. Please give us an idea of your professional background;

I studied environmental science at UOW and got interested in GIS through that, I have been working at Cardno for over 12 years now and have been exposed to a range of environmental, linear infrastructure, civil engineering, urban, planning and geotechnical projects in that time. I currently manage a team of 10 spatial professionals out of Wollongong and am one of our remotely piloted aircraft / drone pilots.

  1. Tell us what is the most enlightening project that you are or have been involved in? ;

My favourite project is Calderwood Valley because it’s been such a large project for our office over so many years and is a local project. I remember doing fieldwork investigating stream order when it was paddocks, creating maps for planned upgrades and I have been out there flying drones. Now with houses popping up everywhere and people moving in, it is different every time I drive past.

  1. What is the best thing you’ve experienced since becoming involved in the industry? ;

The uptake of mobile GIS – it’s so much easier to take digital technology out on site now

  1. What are you most looking forward to being a part of in the next six months?;

Expanding our drone operations and continuing to provide value adds to our projects through web and mobile GIS.

  1. Okay, as a local give us your tips for the best coffee and dining out in your area

Being just around the corner, Toro Robata Sushi is our favourite lunch destination in Wollongong – delicious Japanese food :)

  1. Finally, with SSSI being a national organisation, what is your favourite holiday destination?

Our family loves our annual trips to the Snowy Mountains. My daughter is 2 and a half and has already been to the snow 7 times!

Note that you can catch-up with Amy at From CAD to the Moon, at Cardno, on December 5th - register now

New rmc committee members welcome
