Committee Meeting Report
April Committee meeting

The Commission’s meeting this month followed a different agenda. Our aim was to float ideas around new ways to serve our members and the industry:

  • Ideas for webinar topics
  • Promote examples of spatial solutions used for the COVID-19 situation
  • Potential for online delivery of the training course for GIS Program Management
  • The potential to run online interactive meetups or forums as a new way of networking
  • Potential to package spatial learning modules for primary/high school teachers and home-based learning
  • Approach to charging for Webinars to encourage membership
  • Approach to CPD in this time of no face-to-face events

 APSEA Awards still Going Ahead

The word is that the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards are still going to go ahead. At the time of writing this, applications were not yet open for 2020.

2020 SSSI YP Mentoring Program now open!

SSSI is continuing its industry-leading Mentoring Program in 2020 - entirely online! With many disruptions to the ways in which we all live and work, sharing our knowledge and experiences about our profession across generations is more important now than ever. The program will run from June to November, with where mentors and mentees meet to discuss given topics on a fortnightly basis, exploring a range of facets from career goal setting, leadership and emotional intelligence, networking, and more. Mentors and mentees can be expected to make approximately an eight hour time commitment over the length of the program for meetings and preparation for meetings.

The program runs in two streams: (a) undergraduate, for current students or recent graduates, and (b) graduate, for young professionals who are in the workforce and looking to step up their careers.

The feedback from previous participants has been so positive - we strongly encourage you to consider participating in this fantastic program.
