Please find below information on what is happening at the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Tasmania as of February 2020.
TAS Regional Chair - Paul Digney
Welcome to another New Year, I trust it finds you relaxed after your Christmas-New Year break and that a safe and prosperous year is ahead.
Our hard working committee is in the midst of finalising the events program for 2020 and there is plenty to look forward to. At this stage we have locked in dates for our two major events; State of the GIS - Thursday 14 May 2020 and the Tasmania Survey and Spatial Conference TSSC - Friday 18 September 2020. Please keep these dates handy and your calendars free. More information will be provided over the coming weeks and months.
We are also looking to continue our seminars for this year, with a number of shorter events planned for the new year, including working with one of our industry partners, TasWater to present on recent changes and also an event coordinated with ICSM who are holding their annual meeting in Hobart in early 2020.
I am also pleased to confirm that Hydro Tasmania is sponsoring and hosting the Tasmanian response to the National Bushfire Recovery Map-a-thon which is to be held on Sunday 9th Feb. For those who are interested, please visit https://sssi.org.au/fire-map-a-thon and get involved.
Finally, as always, a call for you to get involved. The SSSI Tas Committee is a great group of people, and we have excellent sustaining partner support. We can always use more volunteers, though, especially from non-Hobart and non-male members! Get in touch if you’d like to help out, either in organising events, or simply being a voice of reason in the committee meetings.
I look forward to seeing you all at events throughout the year.
