It has been a busy few weeks for the Tasmanian Region with the The Tasmanian Survey & Spatial Conference (TSSC 2018) held in Launceston on September 14 at the Country Club Casino. The event attracted over 120 delegates from all over the state and a number of interstate guests as well. The SSSI AGM was also held at the same time, with the handing over of the baton to our new National President - Dr Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse from outgoing president Gaby van Wyk.
The conference was an outstanding success with a theme of Positioning Property People Now - it focused on the new positioning paradigm, in particular the opportunities presented by the NPI announcements, and the convergence with the modernisation of digital cadastres and what this all means. Delegates were treated to a range of topical presentations on property, positioning and the future direction of the profession and our industry.

The event was capped off with the conference dinner and Tasmania APSEA awards. Congratulations to our industry award winners; Land Tasmania (Award for People and Commuity) and Insight GIS/ Marine and Safety Tasmania MAST (Award for Spatial Enablement) and to Jon Osborn from the University of Tasmania who was awarded the Education Development Award for his outstanding service to Tasmania Surveying & Spatial Education.
