Chair Report

Victoria Region

The SSSI Victoria Committee and CSDILA were very pleased to host the successful Public Lecture with Bart De Lathouwer, President of the Open Geospatial Consortium in Belgium, who spoke on Digital Twins: BIM and Geo relating to major cities. Many thanks to Bart for the engaging and informative hour, and for taking time to answer questions. Thank you to the University of Melbourne for the use of their venue for this lecture.

To celebrate World GIS Day 2019, SSSI, SIBA and 1Spatial collaborated to bring a GIS breakfast seminar at Crown Towers.

The SSSI VIC YPs hosted their graduation event on 7th November when mentors and mentees were presented their certificates. Thank you to mentors and mentees who participated in this year's Young Professionals Mentoring Program, and for sharing your testimonies and experience with the audience. Congratulations on completing the 2019 program! Information for the 2020 Mentoring Program is now available. If you would like to join in this program, do register your interest early.

The 2019 Mentoring Program was proudly sponsored by C.R. Kennedy.

Your VIC committee also met on Saturday 16 November for a full planning day for 2020.

On next Tuesday is the End-of-year Seminar on 10th December at the State Library of Victoria, Swanston St Melbourne, 4:00pm for 4:30pm start. The program will include presentations from DELWP, a mentor and mentee from the highly successful 2019 SSSI Mentoring Program, and a special guest presentation from John Brock (NSW) on Measurements to the Moon. Register soon!

We look forward to seeing members on the 21st January at C.R. Kennedy & Co. office for the first of many seminars for 2020. Save this date in your diary, and look out for the program, out soon!
