The Victorian Region concluded the year with our annual End of Year Christmas social function at the Imperial Hotel on 17 December. We took some time to remember our colleagues who passed away during the year with a minute of silence. The year-end function always provided us the opportunity to briefly outline some of the many achievements in the region and the excellent work that our profession and the SSSI were able to accomplish. It was great to see everyone who came along to share some drinks and nibbles and have a good catch-up with new and familiar faces.
Victoria’s Planning Day
The committee ran the annual planning session online on the Saturday 16 January where we put together our plan for the year ahead. It was a productive and effective meeting, drawing together the programs and events from the National level and those of other organisations in Victoria to ensure members are able to take full advantage of the availability to grow both personally and professionally. The year’s program is available for members to see on the SSSI Events Calendar on the web page. We would encourage you to visit it and see what is on offer.
Summer Webinar
The annual ISV-SSSI Summer Seminar was run as a webinar this year by the Institute of Surveyors Victoria on 2 February. The event continued to be a successful and well-attended online event. There were over 140 registrations to this event.

Locate21
While Locate21 is hosted by our colleagues in Brisbane this year, members in Cairns, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and even Wellington, NZ, will have live sites for locals to come together and participate in the event. So do come along and meet fellow professionals, and discuss the topics presented. The theme this year is Convergence, Collaboration and Community – towards a stronger economy. View the conference program here.
Free Webinars 2021
Many of us have availed ourselves to the extensive list of webinar topics free of charge last year and benefited greatly from the content. The SSSI webinars will continue to be free to SSSI members in 2021. More topics are added regularly, so do check out the SSSI Events page. SSSI will also notify you of new additions to the events list. Past webinar recordings can be found on the eCPD page.
Young Professionals Mentoring Program 2021
The Mentoring Program has already received expressions of interest from over 100 individuals. The program received many positive reviews and was very well-received. It provides an excellent platform for learning and interaction with guided topics of discussion. I encourage you to consider sharing your expertise and experience to participate as a mentor. I believe you will enjoy the experience as those who have participated in previous programs as mentors all say how they got more out of it than they thought they would. Please indicate your interest here.
