Victoria Regional Chair - Andrej Mocicka
On behalf of the Victoria Regional Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome SSSI CEO Tony Wheeler. We look forward to working with Tony.
I will not talk about the obvious situation we all find ourselves in. Instead, I would like to highlight the fact that SSSI is providing a number of services to members in this time of isolation. These include the Mentoring Program that the SSSI Young Professionals professionals are running again this year online. We have already run a number of webinars which have been extremely successful; there is a timetable of SSSI webinars that are available on the events calendar on our website.
The Victorian committee continues to meet each month and works towards providing services to the profession and SSSI members. The Committee has been working on a number of initiatives included:
- DELWP – ePlan Seminar
- Webinars in April – Marine & Coastal Policy with Rebecca Price and Mapping the Plastic with Simon Ironside from NZ
- LG and GIS Webinar in June
The committee is also pushing forward with organising your annual Surveying and Spatial Summit to be held on 20th November 2020. The theme of the Summit will be "Spatially Enabling Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)". Keep this date in your calendar and submit an abstract if you have something you would like to share with the community. This will be a joint event with the Institution of Surveyors Victoria (ISV). More details will be announced in due course.
We are also in discussions with other professional bodies including the ISV to combine the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA) evening to make the event a night to remember. More details will be forthcoming but will, at this time, be dependent on the COVID-19 situation.
Kind regards,
Andrej Mocicka FSSSI

The 2020 SSSI YP Mentoring Program applications close on Monday 18 May.
SSSI is continuing its industry-leading Mentoring Program in 2020 - entirely online! With many disruptions to the ways in which we all live and work, sharing our knowledge and experiences about our profession across generations is more important now than ever. The program will run from June to November, with where mentors and mentees meet to discuss given topics on a fortnightly basis, exploring a range of facets from career goal setting, leadership and emotional intelligence, networking, and more. Mentors and mentees can be expected to make approximately an eight-hour time commitment over the length of the program for meetings and preparation for meetings.
The program runs in two streams (a) undergraduate, for current students or recent graduates and (b) graduates, for young professionals who are in the workforce and are looking to step up their careers.
The feedback from previous participants has been so positive - we strongly encourage you to consider participating in this fantastic program.
