Welcome to the June 2020 WA Geomessage. We hope all our members are safe and well. 

Late last month the National APSEA's were held virtually (for the first time ever!). It was our chance to celebrate our national award winners in the safest way possible. It was great seeing so many of our award winners dress up and celebrate in their own way. 

SSSI WA would like to once again acknowledge and congratulate all the individual WA winners for the 2019 APSEA Awards:

  • Professional of the Year - Geoff Robb
  • Women's Leadership Award - Amy Hall
  • Undergraduate Student Award - Lachlan Shaw
  • Postgraduate Student Award - Mehdi Khaki
  • Educational Development Award - Dr David Belton

A big congratualions to Mehdi Khaki who was awarded the National Postgraduate Student award.

SSSI WA would also like to congratulate once again our state industry award winners for the 2019 APSEA Awards:

  • Award for People and Community - Indigenous Mapping Workshop (Winyama)
  • Award for Environment & Sustainability - Peel Food Zone (GHD, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Peel Development Commission)

A big congratulations to Land Surveys for receiving the National Award for technical Excellence.

SSSI National Webinar series 

Though we are unable to meet face to face over the next few months, SSSI is committed to delivering a lively and robust CPD program. SSSI is proud of its National Webinar Series. Showcasing national and international speakers discussing relevant topics of interest to the spatial and surveying professions.

  • Value Chain Mapping being held on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2020. In this webinar, Andrew Coote (Chief Executive and Principal Consultant, ConsultingWhere) will illustrate how Value Chain Mapping has been applied to geospatial projects using work undertaken on establishing the business case for 3D Geo-information in Europe applied to a number of use cases including valuation, urban planning, flood control and security.

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Asia-Pacific Spacial Excellence Awards (APSEA)  for Western Australia. 

The Spatial Excellence Awards celebrate the achievements of top spatial information enterprises and individuals and showcase the finest projects and most significant performance of professionals that the Western Australia Surveying and Spatial Industry have to offer.

Projects and individuals attaining recognition at this premier event are deemed to be truly outstanding achievers and pre-eminent in their field.

Individual award categories include:

Join us for our monthly WA Land Surveying Commission Meetings

SSSI members and friends are welcome to attend the monthly SSSI WA Land Surveying Commission Meetings. These meeting are held via Zoom from 5:30pm on the last Tuesday of each month. 

Join us to hear updates from SSSI, Landgate, the LSLB and of course to discuss current surveying issues and trends. If you would like further information about these meetings, please contact rom.wa@sssi.org.au 

These meetings are recorded and cadastral points can be claimed for watching the meetings - this offer is available to SSSI members only. If you would like to view past recorded meetings, please email rom.wa@sssi.org.au 

It's Renewals time! 


Thanks again for your continuing membership and support of SSSI over the past year. By now you would have received your renewal notice for the 2020/2021 financial year. If you have not received this information, please contact the National Office. If you have not yet renewed your membership, please do so before this 31 July 2019.
