WA Regional Chair - Lesley Arnold
It is with pleasure that I announce and welcome our new Regional Operations Manager Johanna Gastevich to SSSIWA. Johanna comes to us with vast experience working in similar associations to SSSI, such as Engineers Australia, Lean Construction Institute Australia, the Council of Built Environment Design Professions Limited and the Western Australian Sustainable Energy Association. Johanna has worked at both a National and State level and has a real appreciation of the complexities and rewards of working for a not-for-profit organisation. I would like to personally thank Danielle Stefani and Kieran Smyth for doing an excellent job of managing operations while recruitment was underway.
Johanna could not have started at a more critical time in the year. The Location Intelligence Forum and Exhibition (LIFE 2018) is quickly approaching and is being held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, 19th October.
The Organising Committee has worked tirelessly to present an exciting program featuring many distinguished speakers. This year we welcome three international speakers –John Kedar from Ordnance Survey UK, Tim Trainor, former Chief Geospatial Scientist from the US Census Bureau, and Andrew Coote from ConsultingWhere UK will connect us to global opportunities to leverage Australian innovation in location tech. We are also very pleased to announce that the Hon Michelle Roberts MLA, Minister for Police and Road Safety, will open LIFE 2018. Visit our event website for further information and don’t forget to register: http://www.wasssc.com.au/
Organising the Location Intelligence Forum and Exhibition has required a mammoth amount of effort. This message is an opportunity to single out those who have contributed immensely to bring you an amazing array of speakers. I am very grateful to Damian Shepherd, Dr Petra Helmholz, Aaron Gibson, Tony Snow, Darren Mottolini, Lisa Dykes and David Belton who have used their phenomenal network to cultivate an exceptional program.
The experience, energy and inspiration of our speakers make LIFE2018 a not to be missed event.
The Forum will be opened by Honourable Michelle Roberts Minister for Police and Road Safety.
Jeremy Hurst from SpaceToCo and Siobhan Lancaster from Instatruck have used location tech to tap into the new sharing economy. Chris Dorian and his team at Buildsort are using blockchain to simplify building approvals; and Dave Newman and the Ovass team are helping business combine the power of AI and imagery to make faster decisions.
Paul Farrell from NGIS, Peter Kinne from Digital Globe, and Stuart Minchin and Graham Hammond from Geoscience Australia will talk about how Australians are using location tech to work with our regional neighbours to respond quickly to emergencies and major global challenges.
Location tech takes to robots in the air and on the water in the Surveying Tomorrow stream with Geoffrey Robb from RM Surveys, Nicolas Addy from LandSurveys and Matt Power from insight UAS.
Dr Ian Martinus from the City of Wanneroo will discuss how local government is responding to the opportunities of an expanding transport network in Perth. And Jim Wyatt from Innovation Central at Curtin University, Dirk Wagemans from Hexagon Geospatial, Glenn Morrison from AAM, Matt Schneider from Optika Solutions, Christian Larsen from Glassterra and Andrew Compson from Bentley Systems will share their experience in applying virtual and augmented reality, connected devices through the Internet of Things, and AI across industries, including mining, agriculture and planning.
Paul Asphar from the Landgate Strata Reform team, supported by Murray Dolling Senior Consultant, will be outlining what will be considered by the regulations required to support the Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2018 and the Community Titles Bill 2018.
