Dear Friends

I am writing this GeoMessage from New York, where I have the pleasure of attending the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UNGGIM) from 5–9 August as part of the Australian Delegation. I hope to meet with International Geospatial Societies' Presidents during the event. I will also take the opportunity to sign an MoU between SSSI and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The OGC is an international not for profit organisation committed to making quality open standards for the global geospatial community. These standards are made through a consensus process and are freely available for anyone to use to improve sharing of the world's geospatial data. I strongly believe this MoU will benefit our SSSI members. Stay tuned for the press release.

Renewals of our membership has been great, with the majority of our valued members having already renewed! Please remember to renew if you have not already done so.

Registrations for SEASC 2019  has been brilliant, with nearly 400 confirmed participants. His Excellency Dr Aladdin D. Rillo, Deputy Secretary General ASEAN Federation will be our International Guest of Honour. I look forward to meeting our valued members, stakeholders and partners in Darwin on 15–18 August.

My special thanks to Nicholas Brown, Director of National Geodesy, Chair of the Permanent Committee on Geodesy, Australian Representative on FIG Commission (and proud recipient of the 2018 SSSI Young Professional of the Year Award) for arranging the upcoming webinar series on Upgrading the Australian Geospatial Reference System, jointly hosted by SSSI and ICSM. The first webinar is scheduled for 21 August 2019 and I encourage our members to participate.

Finally, I would like to wish all SSSI regions a successful upcoming regional conference and APSEA season. First cab off the rank for this year is the Victorian Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards and Surveying & Spatial Summit in Melbourne on 29-30 August. I look forward to meeting SSSI Victoria members and supporters!

Kind regards
