Founded in 1963, URISA is a nonprofit association of professionals in North America using GIS and other information technologies to solve challenges in state / provincial and local government agencies and departments. URISA promotes the effective and ethical use of spatial information and information technologies for the understanding and management of urban and regional systems and is a leading provider of learning and knowledge for the GIS community.
SSSI and URISA have a MoU for access to training, professional development and an annual international exchange program.
The Institute is a learned society established to engender the professional development of individuals and organisations involved in the many facets of the mapping sciences.
SSSI and MSIA are partners in the Journal of Spatial Science publication.
GISCI is a tax-exempt not-for-profit organization established in 2004 that provides the GIS community with a complete certification program. GISCI offers participants from the first early years on the job until retirement a positive method of developing value for professionals and employers in the GIS profession.
