Spatial Information Day and APSEA-SA
Spatial Information Day (SID) is SSSI South Australia's annual regional conference and South Australia's premier conference for the geospatial and surveying industry.
COVID-19: a message from the Chair
Due to ongoing and escalating health concerns around the spread of COVID-19, the Spatial Information Day Organising Committee have made the difficult decision to cancel Spatial Information Day & APSEA-SA awards dinner 2020. Our focus will now be on working towards the delivery of Spatial Information Day & APSEA-SA awards dinner 2021, which is provisionally scheduled for Friday 27 August 2021 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Even though we can’t have an awards dinner this year, the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards – South Australia (APSEA-SA) will still be awarded in 2020! Details of how to submit a nomination will be released shortly.
In the 18 years that Spatial Information Day has been the highlight of the spatial calendar in South Australia, this is the first time the event has been cancelled and the decision was not made lightly. Though SID is still five months away, we do not believe it would be responsible for us to continue to plan for the event, take registrations and sponsorship applications, accept abstract submissions or book suppliers, given there is no certainty around whether the event can or should take place this year. The SID Organising Committee members will be using the next 17 months to plan and prepare to deliver an outstanding program in 2021. We will look forward to celebrating our return to business with you then.
In the meantime, the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute and Spatial Information Day committee will work together to deliver a program of webinars and online learning opportunities which will give you access to the same high-quality content you would expect from SID, from the comfort of your own home or workspace.
The first of these webinars will take place on Tuesday 28 April 2020 with a presentation from Eugene Lamnek of GeoIT Solutions on “Reporting and Measuring Bushfire Mitigation Work – a Software Pilot”.
If you were intending to submit a presentation abstract for SID this year, I would encourage you to consider whether this could be delivered in an online format. Please contact Imogen on email@example.com to discuss participating in a webinar. Please also contact Imogen with any suggestions for webinar content you would like to see – we are committed to continuing to serve the spatial community in SA and beyond with quality learning opportunities.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our Spatial Information Day community. The ongoing success of SID & APSEA-SA has always relied on our delegates, presenters, exhibitors and sponsors, and we are hugely grateful to you all for the support you’ve shown us over the past years. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2021, but in the meantime, stay safe and healthy!
